Spencer, Iowa — A building that formerly housed one of Spencer’s largest employers has been sold.
Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation CEO Kylie Miller confirmed to KIWA that the Eaton Corporation building in western Spencer has been sold to a buyer from Indiana. Miller said his organization has been authorized to release no additional information on the sale.
At one time, Eaton Corporation was one of Spencer’s largest employers, having a workforce of nearly 800, working on three shifts.
In early November, 2016, Eaton Corporation announced plans to close the Spencer facility by September of last year, citing ongoing declines in key markets and demand for products made at the facility.
No official word is available on the identity of the buyer, nor when they will take possession of the Spencer facility.
