O’Brien County, Iowa — The recently-formed O’Brien County Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee held their second meeting Thursday evening at the Primghar fire station.
O’Brien County Emergency Management Coordinator Jared Johnnson tells us about the topics of conversation at Thursday’s meeting.
Johnson says a great deal of time was spent discussing EMS staffing issues.
He says the group’s next meeting will be a brainstorming session with Medical Directors of the county’s EMS services.
Johnson says staffing issues are nothing new, nor are they unique to our area.
He says one thing that is having an effect on the number of volunteers is that the current crop have been working in EMS for a number of years, and are aging. He says they have to come up with strategies for attracting and recruiting new volunteers.
