Northwest Iowa — Northwest Iowa crops keep growing, but growing conditions have been a mixed bag in northwest Iowa, with some fields suffering more stress than others.
That’s according to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach crop field specialist and agronomist Joel DeJong.
He says that some areas really could use a significant rain.
He gives us an idea of how mature the corn is in northwest Iowa.
DeJong says August is the more critical month for soybeans.
He says disease and insect pressure has been pretty light so far, which has been a big help. In the next few weeks, DeJong says he’ll be encouraging farmers to scout for aphids on soybeans and disease symptoms in corn, depending on the weather. He says the hotter and drier it is, the fewer plants will be affected by disease.
