Sioux Center, Iowa — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
KIWA spoke with Michele Carlson from the Family Crisis Center in Sioux Center as she told us why Domestic Violence may happen.
Carlson says there are things to watch for.
Since the Covid quarantine began there are also new ways for control, according to Carlson.
Carlson tells KIWA that when a survivor decides to leave, it usually takes more than one time to leave.
She says leaving a domestic violence partner takes a lot of planning.
Carlson says that when children are involved it is very important to find therapy or someone that children can talk to. This will help with the negative impact domestic violence causes on children.
Carlson has some advice to anyone who is dealing with a domestic violence relationship.
