Washington, DC — Congressman Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) has announced that Natilie Schmith, a 7th-grade student from Sheldon, has won this year’s Congressional App Challenge in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District.
Feenstra says Schmith’s application – Mental Health: Teens – allows young people to manage their mental health through password-protected, digital diary entries. It was developed for Web, iOS, and Android.
Feenstra says he wants to congratulate Schmith, and says, “Mental health is just as important as physical health, and Natilie’s app helps teenagers like [her] prioritize their mental wellbeing in a private way. I appreciate every Iowa student who participated in this year’s competition, and [I] look forward to featuring Natalie’s incredible work in an online exhibit at the U.S. Capitol for all to see.”
Feenstra’s staff tells us the Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide competition that encourages students to learn to code and exposes them to the possibilities of a career in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
