Final Totals In For O’Brien Relay For Life

O’Brien County, Iowa — Last week we told you preliminary figures indicated the O’Brien County Relay for Life had raised nearly $31-thousand in the fight against cancer.  Now the final totals are in, and the final number is significantly higher.

O’Brien County Relay for Life Chair, Cindy Runger, says the event raised $34,840 for the American Cancer Society’s advocacy, education, patient services, and research programs.  This year’s event was held last Thursday, June 15th, at the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center on the campus of Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.

Runger says one of the highlights of the Relay for Life is the Luminaria Ceremony.  She says this year’s relay featured 509 luminaria bags, which were lit to surround the LLRC’s track.  She says thirty-eight people took part in the 2017 Survivor’s Lap.

Runger wishes to thank the businesses and individuals of O’Brien County, and the surrounding area, for their generous support.  And, she says, the O’Brien County event wouldn’t be possible without the countless hours donated by the volunteers who make each year’s Relay for Life a success.
