According to Rock Rapids Fire Chief Ed Reck, about 11:15 PM, the Rock Rapids Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at the home of Heidi Gubbins at 101 South Carroll Street, diagonally across the intersection from McCarty Motors on Highway 9. The fire chief reports Gubbins was in the process of moving back into the home.

The chief says the fire department saw lots of smoke coming from windows and doors as they approached the scene.

Reck says there were no injuries reported, but he says that there was substantial damage.

He says they used about 1000 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene until about 2:00 AM.

Reck says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Lyon County Ambulance Crew remained on the scene while firefighters were putting out the fire.

He says the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office blocked Highway 9 for about two hours due to a hose lying across the highway from a fire hydrant across the street.
