Five Northwest Iowa High School Bands To Compete At Luverne, MN

Luverne, Minnesota — Bands from five northwest Iowa high schools will be among those competing in the Tri-State Band Festival in Luverne, Minnesota this Saturday, September 29th.

Participating in the parade will be the George-Little Rock High School Marching Band and the Boyden-Hull High School Marching Band.

Participating in the field events will be the Sibley-Ocheyedan High School Marching Band, the South O’Brien High School Marching Band, and the West Lyon High School Marching Band.

Luverne Chamber of Commerce Director Jane Lanphere tells us what to expect if you go.

Some band competitions sort bands by the number of members in the band. But Lanphere tells us that at Luverne, schools are sorted by the number of students that attend the ninth through the twelfth grades at that school.

She says while the restaurants in town are ready for you, there are also some other opportunities.

Luverne is 18 miles straight north of Rock Rapids on Highway 75, or 32 miles straight west of Worthington on I-90, and again it all gets underway with the parade starting at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday.
