Des Moines, Iowa — The governor of Iowa has set the time to lower flags to honor the memory of two fallen Des Moines area police officers.
Governor Terry Branstad has ordered all flags in Iowa be flown at half-staff from sunrise on Monday, November 7th to sunset on Tuesday, November 8th, to honor Des Moines Police Sgt. Tony Beminio and Urbandale Police Officer Justin Martin, who were both killed in the line of duty in the early morning hours of November 2nd. Sgt. Beminio will be laid to rest on Monday, November 7th and Officer Martin, Tuesday, November 8th.
The governor’s directive applies to all U.S. and state flags under the control of the state. Flags will be at half-staff on the state Capitol building and on flag displays in the Capitol complex, and upon all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
