Free Income Tax Filing Available At NCC

Sheldon, Iowa — If you need help filing your taxes, help might be as close as Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.

NCC is again working with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or “VITA” site. Sheila Drenkow, the VITA site coordinator says students in the college’s Accounting and Administrative Secretarial programs are providing the assistance. She says it’s an official program of the Internal Revenue Service.

She tells us specifically what help they provide.

She says the $54,000 limit is per entity, so it could also be a married couple filing jointly with a combined income of less that $54,000 per year.

Drenkow says they’ve been helping people for several years, and tells us how it got started years ago.

She tells us how you can make an appointment.

She says they’re adding a new option this year.

She says you’ll leave your phone number and other important information on a form, and someone will call you when your taxes are done to go through them with you.

Again, if you’d like to make an appointment, you can call 712-324-5061, extension 272 to leave a message and an administrative secretarial student will contact you to schedule an appointment.
