Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will hold a special meeting Monday April 15th. Their first order of new business will be to accept the resignation of Greg Geels from the City Council, which will be followed by the swearing in of Geels as Sheldon Mayor. The council is then expected to approve the pro-rated mayoral wages for Brad Hindt who filled that position after the resignation of Tricia Meendering. Then, at the request of Mayor Geels, Hindt will be reappointed to the position of Mayor Pro Tem.
The next step will be a discussion on how to fill the council position left vacant by the appointment of Geels as Mayor. This is an at-large position, so it is open to people of all three Sheldon Wards. If the council decides to appoint the new council member it must be done within forty days of when the vacancy occurred, unless a petition is filed requesting an election. That election would have to occur within ninety days of the vacancy.
Monday’s special council meeting will begin at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
