Groundbreaking Is Friday For Sheldon “Turf Project”

Sheldon, Iowa — Groundbreaking ceremonies are scheduled for this Friday (April 29th) on a project that has garnered much attention, along with several generous financial contributions, over most of the past year.

Groundbreaking for the $1.4-million Turf Field Project at the Orab football field will be held at 11:00 Friday morning. The project is a partnership between the Sheldon Community School District, Northwest Iowa Community College and the City of Sheldon, along with several local businesses who have donated generously to see the project come to fruition.

Sheldon Community Schools Superintendent Cory Myer tells KIWA that the dirt work for the project will begin in earnest this coming Monday.

Myer says the project should be completed by late summer.

The new facility will be used, not only by the Orab football team, but by the Orab Soccer program and the Orab marching band. Additionally, Northwest Iowa Community College will be utilizing the facility when they begin their intercollegiate men’s and women’s soccer programs, which are slated to begin in either Fall 2023 or Fall 2024. And the facility will be available for use by the Sheldon Rec Department, Excellence for East, and multiple other uses.
