Rock Valley, Iowa — A northwest Iowa high school gym is going to receive some improvements, thanks in-part to donations from the community and beyond.
Rock Valley Community School District Superintendent Chad Janzen tells us about the ideas that they have for their gym.
Janzen says the school district probably wouldn’t be attempting most of these upgrades without the help of the Rock Valley Spirit Club.
Janzen says the school will pay for a portion of the upgrades, depending on what happens with the fundraising this year. He says the Spirit Club has two main fundraisers — an auction coming up on October 27th, which usually nets around $50,000, and occasionally up to $70,000, and a golf tournament, which last year raised about $7,000. But this year, they’ve also got another fundraiser, which he says is proving to be very popular.
Janzen says he’s sure they will be getting new bleachers, and they’ll do the other upgrades if funds are available. He says they’ll know what upgrades they’ll be doing in early 2017 and the upgrades will be started in June. He says they have estimates of $120,000 to $130,000 for the new bleachers, and around $16,000 for the gym floor. Other estimates are not in yet.
Raffle tickets for the motorcycle, which is a 2016 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special, can be purchased at Koldy’s Sports Bar and Grill or Jerry’s Carquest Auto Parts in Rock Valley or at school events. Tickets are $5 each, or 6 for $25, or 25 tickets for $100.
