Hawarden, Iowa — Hawarden firefighters fought a ditch fire on Thursday, April 6, 2017 near Hawarden.
According to Hawarden Fire Chief Jon Strong, about 3:15 PM, the Hawarden Fire Department was called to the report of a ditch fire, a mile and a half south of the Hawarden golf course on Hawarden’s east side.
The chief says the fire department saw about an eighth of a mile of the ditch on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire.
Strong says no injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Chief Strong reports the only thing burned was the grass in the ditch.
He says they used about 300 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about a half hour.
