On Sunday afternoon, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office investigated a single motor vehicle hit-and-run accident on a private drive in the 2300 mile of Jay Avenue. That’s about a mile and a half south of George and two miles west. The previous night, investigators believe a red Pontiac Grand Prix with a model year sometime between 1997-2003 was southbound on Jay Avenue. The vehicle is believed to have the words “Grand Prix” stickered on top of the front windshield.

Deputies believe the vehicle crossed the 230th Street intersection and entered a dead end private drive. They believe it then struck a utility pole and gate causing damage to both.

Deputies say the vehicle sustained significant front end damage and appears to have been removed from the scene by someone using a pickup, trailer and possibly a Case skid loader.

The vehicles left the accident scene eastbound on 230th Street and were last seen going southbound on L-14 (Kennedy Avenue) near the Sioux County/Lyon County border.

If anyone has information about the accident, they are asked to contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at (712)472-8300.
