HMS Board Makes No Decision On Course Of Action Following Bond Issue Defeat

HMS logoHartley, Iowa — Last week we told you that the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Community School District Board of Education had scheduled a “work session” following Monday night’s Board Meeting to discuss how to proceed, after the District’s failed 3rd attempt at a bond issue that would have financed the construction of a new elementary school, attached to the current high school in Hartley.  The new elementary school would have had a separate entrance from the high school.  The bond issue would also have paid for a new playground, as well as an addition to, and renovation of, the middle school in Sanborn.  You may recall that last week’s election saw that bond issue falling short by just 7 votes.

KIWA talked to HMS Superintendent Bill Thompson Tuesday, and asked him about Monday night’s work session.  Thompson says the meeting saw significant discussion about the bond issue defeat, but no final decisions were made as to where the District goes from here.

Thompson says another Board work session will be held in May, when the Board will again talk about their options.
