Orange City, Iowa — A Hull man has been sentenced to prison on Sex Abuse and Indecent Exposure charges.
Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle says the case against Justin Ray VanVeldhuizen arose from a Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigation into a report that VanVeldhuizen had sexually abused multiple children over the past several years. Kunstle says the investigation revealed that VanVeldhuizen had, in fact, committed sexual abuse and indecent exposure against more than one child between 2009 and 2015.
On Monday of this week, Kunstle says VanVeldhuizen pled Guilty to Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree, a Class C Felony, and Indecent Exposure, a Serious Misdemeanor. Kunstle says that, pursuant to a plea agreement, VanVeldhuizen was sentenced to up to 10-years in prison on the Sexual Abuse charge, and to 1-year in jail on the Indecent Exposure Charge, with the sentences to run concurrently. Kunstle says VanVeldhuizen will also be required to submit a DNA sample for entry into Iowa’s criminal database. According to Kunstle, once VanVeldhuizen is released from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender, and be supervised as if on parole, for the remainder of his life.
Following Monday’s sentencing, VanVeldhuizen was immediately taken into custody by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, where Kunstle says he will await transportation to prison.
