Information, Entertainment And More Continue At County Fairs

Primghar and Rock Rapids, Iowa — Fair time continues in northwest Iowa. The O’Brien County Fair in Primghar and the Lyon County Fair in Rock Rapids continue to showcase, inform, and entertain.

This Wednesday at the O’Brien County Fair in Primghar, things get going bright and early with the swine show at 7:30 a.m. At 9, it’s time for the 4H Pet Show. Also starting at 9 are the Rooster Crowing Contest and Monkey See, Monkey Zoo Camp in the administration building. The Dog Show is at 9:30, or immediately following the Pet Show.

Ventriloquist David Malmberg’s show starts at noon. The judging of educational presentations and working exhibits starts at 1. Also starting at 1 is Animal Adventures Camp in the 4H Building. At 2:30, Livestock Judging registration starts, with the Livestock Judging Contest at 3. At 5, it’s time for the Share the Fun Entertainment and Evaluation, 4H Style Show, and Citizenship Club project awards.

The evening entertainment also starts at 5, with the O’Brien County Farm Bureau Watermelon Feed, which runs until 7. Ventriloquist David Malmberg is back at 5:45. At 6 p.m., the ATV Races will start at the Horse Arena. At 7:30, it’s time for the auto races, sponsored by the Primghar Jaycees.

Wednesday is the third big day of the Lyon County Fair in Rock Rapids. They’ll start at 8 a.m. with the 4H and FFA Beef Show. The 4H and FFA Poultry Show starts in the poultry barn at noon. The Lyon County Historical Society Display & Demonstrations in Round Barn will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Robbie Pfunders’ mountain bike trails stunt show will take place three times during the day. Bob Bohm’s magic show will be on the fairgrounds, starting at 1. At 1:30, it’s time for the 4H and FFA Horse Show.

The Spelling Bee takes place, starting at 3:00 in the Entertainment Building. From 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., the Zoo Mobile will be on the grounds. The Clover Kids Pet Show starts at 5.

Evening activities include the featured meal for the night — the Lyon County Cattlemen’s Steak Fry from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and the Figure-Eight Races at 7:30.

Both fairs wrap up on Thursday.
