Iowa Among States Where ID Theft & Fraud Is Least Likely

Statewide Iowa — With businesses such as Adidas, Best Buy, Delta, Kmart, Macy’s and Sears experiencing data breaches this year, a report has been released on 2018’s States Most Vulnerable to Identity Theft & Fraud — and Iowa is among the states where they say it’s LEAST likely to happen.

To determine where Americans are most susceptible to such crimes, the personal finance website WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across ten key metrics. The data set ranges from identity-theft complaints per capita to average loss amount due to fraud, says Diana Polk, who is a spokesperson for WalletHub.

She says South Dakota has the fewest identity-theft complaints (per 100,000 residents) with 46, which is 4.2 times fewer than in the District of Columbia, the most at 192.

Interestingly, while North Dakota makes the top ten for states most vulnerable to identity theft and fraud, North Dakota also has the fewest fraud complaints (per 100,000 residents), 277, which is 4.1 times fewer than in the District of Columbia, the most at 1,141.
