Iowa DNR Hosting First-Ever State Park Volunteer Day At Gull Point, Other Parks

Milford, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources, which was handed a $1.2-million budget cut earlier this year, is putting out a call for volunteers to help spruce up Iowa’s state parks, including the Gull Point Complex, as the summer camping season winds down.

Todd Coffelt, chief of the DNR’s State Parks Bureau, is organizing Iowa’s first State Park Volunteer Day, which takes place Saturday (September 30th).

The volunteer activities will take place in nearly three dozen of Iowa’s state parks, including the Gull Point Complex, which is located along the western shore of West Okoboji Lake.

Volunteers at the Gull Point Complex should meet at the Gull Point State Park Office by 10:00 Saturday morning, and will be scraping and painting picnic tables. DNR officials say 20 volunteers are needed, and the project should wrap up by noon.

Volunteers are asked to bring scrapers and paint brushes, if you have them. You’re encouraged to wear old clothes that won’t be damaged by paint.
