It’s ALMOST Fireworks Season In Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — Independence Day is right around the corner, and what could be more American than Mom, apple pie and shooting off fireworks?

But in Sheldon, as in most locations in Iowa, you can’t shoot off consumer fireworks just any old time, there are times when it’s legal and times when it’s not. Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker tells us when it IS legal to shoot off your consumer fireworks in Sheldon. Spoiler alert….it starts this weekend.

Kooiker says there are not only restrictions on dates and times for shooting fireworks, but also on WHERE you can shoot off your consumer fireworks.

Kooiker talked about the enforcement procedures for fireworks violations in the City of Sheldon.

He stressed that they should be used with extreme caution since, with the drought and current dry conditions, one careless mistake could translate into a big problem.

The bottom line, according to Kooiker, is celebrate the 4th carefully, soberly, on your own property, and exercise good judgment in the use of consumer grade fireworks.
