State Official Talks Harvest Safety

Northwest Iowa — Harvest season is beginning, and we thought this a good time to provide some reminders of ways to stay safe during the harvest season in northwest Iowa.

ISU Extension and Outreach Crop Field Specialist Joel De Jong talks about a few, basic safety precautions that should be taken during this fall’s harvest.

He says one important safety rule is don’t take shortcuts.

De Jong says don’t forget to pay attention to the little things.

He also has some advice for motorists.

De Jong offered this final piece of advice.

So farmers, make sure your equipment is properly marked, don’t take shortcuts, and get adequate rest during harvest season. Motorists, expect farm implements to appear in the road in front of you. Exercise patience and good judgement when you encounter them on the road.
