Sheldon, Iowa — The month of July 2019 was significantly wetter than a normal July, while the temperatures were about normal.
According to weather statistics compiled by KIWA for the National Weather Service, the average high temperature in July this year was a balmy 82-degrees, which is the exact same average temperature as July of last year. However, Sheldon’s highest recorded temperature in July of this year was 4-degrees higher than last year. On July 1st this year, the mercury topped out at 95-degrees.
Our average low temperature this July was 64-degrees, which is 4-degrees warmer than last year’s coolest low reading of 60-degrees. In addition, the coolest temperature recorded in Sheldon this July was 50-degrees, which is just 2-degrees warmer than last year’s lowest low.
Taking a look at precipitation statistics, July of this year saw 6.52-inches of moisture fall on Sheldon, which is 3.25-inches above the July 2018 total of 3.27-inches. The 6.52-inches of precipitation this year was 3.17-inches more than the normal July precipitation total of 3.35-inches. Despite getting 3.25-inches more precip in July this year over last, year-to-date precipitation is quite another story. By the end of July 2019 our year-to-date total was 27.18-inches, which is 1.18-inches BELOW the same date last year, which saw 28.36-inches of rainfall.
