Keeping Livestock In Town, Other Items On Agenda When Sheldon Council Meets Wednesday

Sheldon, Iowa — Can you legally keep livestock if you live in the Sheldon City Limits??  The Answer is ‘yes”, but only if you have the approval of the city council.

When the Council meets this Wednesday May 20th, they’ll address a request to keep caged chickens at 2530 Park Street.  That location is at least 145 feet from the nearest residence which may or may not affect the action the council will take.

The council will also act on an updated roster and compensation for Volunteer 1st Responders, hear the third reading of the ordinance amending water rates and act on a resolution acquiring life insurance for volunteer/part time Emergency Services Personnel.

Once again, the former Sunset Motel property and the property at 1023 Garfield Avenue is on the council’s agenda.  The public hearing on the Sunset Motel location had been continued until Wednesday’s meeting. The council will then hear the first reading for rezoning the separate sections of that property.

In other business, the council will be asked to financially assist the SCDC with an upcoming promotion designed to create high-level consumer confidence and local spending.  The new program will follow the previous incentive program that has been termed “very successful.” The proposed new promotion will be revealed at the council meeting.

In other business, the council will be asked to consider a resolution of support for Prairie Trail Phase Two as a potential multi-family housing project similar to the current apartments and town houses in that area.

Wednesday afternoon’s council meeting will begin at 4:30.
