King Holds 1st Town Meeting Since NYT Interview

Primghar, Iowa — Iowa 4th District U.S. Congressman Steve King made his first appearance in northwest Iowa since being excoriated over an interview that appeared in the New York Times. Congressman King held a Town Hall meeting in Primghar Saturday morning, and spoke to a large crowd of constituents, as well as a sizeable media contingent from all across the United States.

King began the meeting with an opening statement in which he discussed the controversial New York Times article, calling it, “the elephant in the room.”

The Congressman used a quote from George Orwell’s book, 1984, to illustrate what he says are the tactics of the left.

He went on to tell the crowd, “there is no way we can be a free Constitutional Republic if we don’t have freedom of speech.”

King told the crowd that he has made mistakes, and he says one of them was talking to the New York Times. He then talked about the 56-minute Times interview.

Following his opening statement, King fielded questions from the audience on topics ranging from border security to his overseas travel, to economic development, to how he could properly represent the 4th District after being stripped of committee assignments. Others thanked the Congressman for his service, and even offered prayers for him, and for the country.

King wrapped up the meeting after just over an hour, and promptly left the building.

There was s sign on the door when people entered the facility where the meeting was held, informing that  no signs would be allowed inside the building. After the meeting, a couple stood across the street from the facility, displaying a Tea Party sign for people to see on their way out.
