Northwest Iowa — Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz made his monthly appearance on the KIWA Morning Show with Wayne & Aaron Thursday morning, and one of the topics of discussion was the year-end traffic crash statistics for 2016.
Kurtz says that more than 400 people lost their lives on Iowa roadways in 2016.
Trooper Kurtz says a large percentage of those who died were not wearing their seat belts.
He says the numbers for 2016 are way up from a year earlier, but the numbers don’t tell the whole story.
Kurtz says the question now is, how do we make it better?
Trooper Kurtz blames most of the fatal crashes on one common thread.
Kurtz defined “Driver Error” as encompassing such things as excessive speed, failure to wear a seat belt, distracted driving, failure to maintain control, and driving while impaired.
