Huseman Says Legislature Will Face Budget Challenge

dan-husemanAurelia, Iowa — It’s almost time once again for the Iowa Legislature to convene in Des Moines. Many changes have taken place and there are many issues to discuss.

District 3 State Representative Dan Huseman’s area includes all of O’Brien and Cherokee counties and parts of Sioux and Plymouth counties.

We asked Huseman what he’d like to see happen in the legislature this year.

Huseman says a number of potential bills have caught his eye.

He says with the Governor’s Office, the House, and now the Senate all under Republican control, there will be a lot of collaboration between Senators and Representatives to get the language worked out on bills so they are acceptable to both houses.

Huseman says one of the first things they’ll have to do is try to figure out how to trim $117 million out of the current budget. He says that will be somewhat of a challenge since cuts to K-12 and Medicaid funding are off the table, per Governor Branstad.
