Sheldon, Iowa — A new scholarship that helps students pay for any leftover tuition charges is going out to students at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.
NCC Vice President Mark Brown tells us about the new Future Ready Iowa Last-Dollar Scholarship.
Brown says there are a number of strategies to do that.
Brown tells us the funding is intended to be gap funding.
According to Brown, the scholarship does not cover room and board or other costs — it is only for tuition.
He tells us about the ultimate goal.
Brown tells us that it’s very easy for students. All you have to do is fill out the FAFSA (that’s the Free Application For Federal Student Aid). He says you do have to be enrolled in one of the programs that are considered to lead to a high-demand career. You have to live in Iowa, have continuous enrollment, and be in good academic standing. But, he says there are no special forms to fill out. Everyone who qualifies gets some funding.
According to Brown, in the current school year (including both fall and spring semesters) 257 students at NCC qualified for Last Dollar Scholarship Funding in the amount of $847,000.
