Le Mars Man Sentenced In Insurance Fraud, Forgery Case

Le Mars, Iowa — A northwest Iowa man has been sentenced in an Insurance Fraud and Forgery case.

According to online court records, 41-year old Scott Leininger of Le Mars had originally been charged with Insurance Fraud, and Forgery, both of which are Class D Felonies.

Online court records indicate that Leininger reached a plea bargain with prosecutors in the case, agreeing to plead Guilty to the Forgery charge in exchange for having the Insurance Fraud charge dismissed. Records indicate that Leininger was sentenced to 5-years in prison, which was suspended, and was fined $750 which was also suspended. He’ll serve at least two years on probation, according to court records, and was ordered to complete credit counseling and a Cognitive Empathy Course, as well as undergo a mental health and substance abuse evaluation.

Court records indicate Leininger had submitted a false insurance claim for damage allegedly occurring during a lightning storm. The insurance company reportedly discovered the false claim, and refused to pay.
