Learn How To Identify Birds At The Prairie Heritage Center

Peterson, Iowa — The O’Brien County Conservation Board is looking forward to hosting guided and self-guided experiences at their parks this summer.

Public programming will be taking on a new look this summer. O’Brien County Naturalist Charlene Elyea explains.

(As said, “Well we’re just giving it a little try. You know everything’s a little different than it used to be, so what what we’re going to do is, we’re inviting people to come out, we’re going to try a program a week, and just have people come out in groups, and it’s going to be kind of guided-self guided, where i’ll meet people and tell them about the topic, and give them some information. Then we’ll have some marks on the trail where their group will be able to stop to learn more and enjoy learning about the outdoors”)

The first event will be “Basic Birds” on June 2nd at Mill Creek Park from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. Elyea talks about how the program works.

(As said, “So our first one is next Tuesday the 2nd. It’s going to be out at Mill Creek Park. We’re going to talk about birds and basic birding. I’ll be out there for a couple of hours and people can come any time during those hours, and hit the trail and learn new things.)

Elyea reminds us that your group must not include more than ten participants. Take-home materials will be provided, and stations will be marked along the trail for your enjoyment. If at any point, your group encounters another along the trail, please announce your presence and allow a safe passing distance.

The naturalists look forward to helping you enjoy and explore the outdoors and families are encouraged to attend together, and look forward to more of these types of programs during Summer 2020.
