Lyon County Fair Starts Monday

Rock Rapids, Iowa — The Lyon County Fair starts Monday. Preparations were underway at the fairgrounds on Saturday.

The fair starts on Monday, July 22nd, and it’s a full day of activities. From 6:30 a.m. to noon, livestock is to be stalled. You can set up your commercial booth starting at 7:30 a.m. From 7:30 to 10, it’s open class entry time in agriculture, fresh fruits, vegetables, and floriculture. Judging begins at 1:00 p.m. At 9 a.m., it’s the 4-H Horticulture Judging. The Commercial exhibit booths and 4-H and Open class buildings open at 11 a.m.

There’s a required 4H and FFA Livestock Exhibitor Meeting at noon. Also at noon will be the flag-raising ceremony. Bucket Calf Interviews are at 12:15. The 4H and FFA Pet Show is at 1 p.m. The Lyon County Historical Society Display and Demonstrations in the Round Barn are from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Classic Tractor and equipment display opens at 2, and that’s open to all who would like to share. At 3 p.m. it’s the 4H and FFA Bucket Calf Show, with the Rabbit Show at 5.

The evening festivities start at 5, with the County Fair Picnic, which runs until 7. At 6:30, it’s time for the Lyon County Fair Queen presentation. During that time they will also present the Friend of the Fair award. At 8:30 p.m. is the flag-lowering ceremony, and the doors close on the commercial building at 9 p.m.

DSM Inflatables will be on the grounds Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
