Lyon County Man Announces State House Bid

Larchwood, Iowa — A man from Lyon County has come forth as a candidate in what will be the new District 4.

For the coming legislative session in 2022, the old district plan is still in effect. But for the election in the fall of 2022 and when candidates take office in January of 2023, the newly-formed House District 4 will include Lyon County and the communities of Sioux Center, Rock Valley, Hull, Boyden, Matlock, and the western portion of Sheldon in Sioux County.

Kendal Zylstra of Larchwood has announced that he has launched his campaign for the Republican nomination in Iowa House District 4.

Zylstra says, “Living in this district my entire life, I understand the concerns of voters throughout the district. I am committed to promoting a bold conservative agenda on behalf of Northwest Iowa.”

He says that as a State Representative his decisions will be grounded in fiscal conservatism and limited government. According to Zylstra, his future constituents will always be able to count on him to stand unapologetically for life and defend the Second Amendment at the State Capital.

Zylstra says that supporting main street small businesses and family farmers are key to the long-term success of our region. And, “Getting government out of the way to ensure entrepreneurs can thrive and create family-supporting jobs is a top priority.”

Zylstra says he considers growing up on a small family farm instrumental in his life. He says he understands the values of hard work and the challenges farmers and business owners encounter. Zylstra claims to be a strong advocate for deregulation, lower taxes, and for rural economic development.

Zylstra is 21 years old, is a rural Larchwood resident, and is a senior currently studying accounting and business administration at Dordt University.
