Money Allocated To Advance Iowa Homeownership Opportunities

Statewide, Iowa — Nearly $20 million is being allocated to advance homeownership opportunities for Iowans.

It’s part of what’s called the Iowa HOME Grant Program, and Governor Reynolds announced on Thursday, December 1st, that the investment is to advance homeownership opportunities for upwards of 90 families across Iowa.

Lisa Houser, the Executive Director at Habitat for Humanity of Iowa says that the awards will fuel a historic investment for homeownership opportunities, and that Habitat for Humanity of Iowa commends Governor Reynolds in advancing housing opportunities for Iowans.

The program awarded funds to projects for things such as the construction of 69 single-family homes by Habitat for Humanity affiliates that are designated to be sold to income eligible families in communities throughout the state, as well as development of six 3-D printed homes, with a specific focus on qualified first-time homebuyer teachers.

In northwest Iowa, Siouxland Habitat for Humanity, which services Sioux City and Orange City, was granted $1,326,280 to build six homes. The funds for the program are made available through the Federal American Rescue Act State and Local Relief Funds.
