Sheldon, Iowa — What amounts to homecoming at Northwest Iowa Community College is next week at the Sheldon college.
For the last several years, NCC’s annual celebration and gathering week has been called “Days of Thunder,” in reference to the college’s mascot — a mountain lion, named “Thunder.” The weeklong celebration starts this coming Monday, September 23rd.
Dr. Greta Giese is one of those organizing the festivities. She tells us what’s happening.
She says on Monday night, they will have a Mario Kart tournament for their students in the Osceola Hall game room, which is a cool space with lots of screens and gaming systems.
On Tuesday, Giese tells us they will host a laser tag event from 2 to 8 at the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center.
She tells us what Wednesday’s festivities normally include.
On Thursday, September 26th, she says they’ll have free popcorn in Building A from 10 to 1, competitive inflatables will be on the grounds most of the day, and the Student Pickleball Tournament is that night.
She says on Friday they’ll have their Family Day.
According to Giese, it’s a program versus program competition. Points are awarded for participating in activities. The grand prize this year is a pair of AirPods.
Also on Friday, there will be a chance to meet and greet the NCC Shooting Sports athletes, who are the first intercollegiate sports team at NCC. The Thunder will host Iowa Central Community College at the Rock Valley Gun Club on Saturday.
