Northwest Iowa Memorial Day Observances Planned

Northwest Iowa — This coming Monday is Memorial Day.

It’s a day set aside to remember the sacrifices of the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day was proclaimed as a day to honor the military members who died in the Civil War. From 1868 to 1970, it was observed on May 30th. Since 1971, it has been observed on the last Monday of May.

Several Memorial Day observances and related events have been planned in our area.

The Sheldon Memorial Day Ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th at the Sheldon High School Auditorium. The special speaker will be Calvary Baptist Church Pastor, Zac Patke.
