Statewide Iowa — The number of people filing for unemployment has increased a little in the last week in Iowa.
Last week, about 8200 people filed initial claims. This week, between Sunday, June 21, and Saturday, June 27, about 8,300 initial claims were filed. There were 7,617 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, and 683 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state. The number of continuing weekly unemployment claims for June 21-27 was 143,488.
Unemployment insurance benefit payments totaled nearly $35 million for the week of June 21-27.
Manufacturing had the highest number of claims, followed by self-employed and independent contractors, health care and social assistance, and accommodation and food services.
A total of about $88 million in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation benefits was paid during the week of June 21-27, 2020. Since April 4, 2020, a total of about $1.1 billion in those types of benefits has been paid.
A total of nearly $5 million was paid in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance benefits during that week.
A total of $3.6 million in benefits has been paid in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits for that week.
