O’Brien County Relay For Life Raises More Than $20,000 For The Battle Against Cancer

Sheldon, Iowa — Fundraising totals from Tuesday evening’s O’Brien County Relay for Life have now been released.

According to organizers, the 2021 O’Brien County Relay For Life event raised $20,571 for the American Cancer Society’s advocacy, education, patient services, and research programs.

The event was originally scheduled to be held at Orab Field, but was moved due to the heat that had been forecast for Tuesday evening. Instead, the event was moved to the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center on the campus of Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.

The event ran from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening.

One of the highlights of the Relay For Life is the luminary ceremony.  416 luminarias surrounded the LLRC track. Twenty three people participated in the survivor’s lap.

Relay for Life Chairman Cindy Runger, expressed her thanks to all the businesses and individuals of O’Brien County and the surrounding area for their generous support. She says the event would not have been possible without the many volunteer hours donated by everyone.
