UPDATE With Name Of Victim – One Killed In 3-Vehicle Crash Near Boyden

Boyden, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the driver involved in the fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred near Boyden on Tuesday, February 25.

The driver of the 2002 Dodge Stratus who died as a result of their injuries was 18-year-old Jordan Gritters, of Hull, according to authorities.

Deputies say Gritters died early Tuesday afternoon when the car he was driving crossed the enter line of Highway 18, two-and-one-half miles west of Boyden, struck an oncoming SUV and then struck a loaded semi head-on. The other two drivers escaped injury.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

Boyden, Iowa — One person is dead as the result of a 3-vehicle accident near Boyden early Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office the crash happened shortly after noon Tuesday, two-and-a half miles west of Boyden.

Deputies say a 2005 GMC Envoy, driven by 69-year-old Susan Guggisberg of Hartley was eastbound on Highway 18. A 2016 Mack semi-tractor pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with steel, driven by 48-year-old Dean Johnson of Rochester, Minnesota was also eastbound on Highway 18, following Guggisberg’s SUV. According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, a 2002 Dodge Stratus traveling westbound on Highway 18 entered the eastbound lane, and struck Guggisberg’s Envoy before hitting Johnson’s semi head-on.

Deputies say the driver of the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sioux County Medical Examiner. The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Guggisberg and Johnson were not injured. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Boyden Ambulance, Boyden Fire Department, Hull Ambulance, Hull Fire Department and Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
