Sibley, Iowa — When the pagers went off for Osceola County First Responders Wednesday afternoon, it was summoning them to Sibley to practice for a call they pray never comes.
The call was for an Active Shooter Drill at the Sibley-Ocheyedan school. Osceola County Sheriff’ Doug Weber tells KIWA that the drill involved several agencies from all around Osceola County.
Sheriff Weber says the drill was based off ALERRT Training that was conducted in Sibley in June. He says they expanded on that training.
Weber says that after the drill a debriefing session was conducted at the Osceola Community Hospital.
The Sheriff says they’re training for a situation they pray never happens, but want to be ready if the unthinkable ever happens.
Weber says he thought the drill went well. He noted that in a real-life scenario the resources from around Osceola County would be augmented by law enforcement and EMS crews from the surrounding area through the Mutual Aid system.
