Osceola County Fair To Start With Queen Contest Wednesday

Sibley, Iowa — Northwest Iowa county fairs continue to inform and entertain fairgoers. Next, it’s Osceola County’s turn. That fair gets underway this Wednesday, July 18th.

From 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., there’s a freewill donation meal, sponsored by Iowa State University Extension in celebration of the centennial of extension this year. At 6:30, it will be the opening ceremonies for the Osceola County American Cancer Society Relay For Life. That will be in the grandstand.

The Little Miss Osceola County and Miss Osceola County Fair Queen Contest will be at 7:30 p.m. in the grandstand. And during intermission, there will be a special Relay For Life speaker talking about her cancer journey.

After the queen contest, the Relay For Life luminaria ceremony and survivor lap will be held in the commercial building.

When it gets dark, about 9:30 p.m., Iowa State University Extension will host a Glo Run/Walk/Bike Ride, starting at the commercial building.

Highlights of the rest of the fair include figure eight races and a demolition derby on Thursday, veterans day and women’s night on Friday, a barbeque contest and all-star monster trucks on Saturday, and a 4-H Council breakfast and ecumenical worship on Sunday.
