Over 40 Sheldon High School Speech Competitors To Compete In 11 Categories At State Contest

Spencer, Iowa — Over 40 Sheldon High School speech competitors, plus speech competitors from many other northwest Iowa schools are converging on Spencer this Saturday for one of four State Large Group Speech contests in the state.

Sheldon High School Speech Coach Lissa Lane-Johnson tells us about the groups that got “Division I” ratings at the district level two weeks ago.

We asked Lane-Johnson for some details. She tells us about their musical theatre ensembles.

She also highlights some ensemble acting entries.

Categories range from Television Broadcasting to Readers Theatre to One-Act Play to Group Improvisation.

Lane-Johnson has a message she’d like to relay.

The contest is going on this Saturday at Spencer High School. Entries are judged by a three-adjudicator panel and the average rating is the rating for the entry. If two of the three adjudicators recommend the entry for All-State, they get to perform at the All-State Speech Festival for Large Group Events at the Iowa State Center in Ames on February 19th.
