Paullina Farmer Testifies Before U.S. Senate Committee

Paullina, Iowa — An O’Brien County farmer is back home after giving testimony in a hearing on the 2018 Farm Bill before the Senate Agriculture Committee in Washington, D.C. earlier this week.

Bruce Rohwer says he was invited to testify as the representative of the National Corn Growers Association.  Rohwer said he thought the hearing went very well.

Rohwer says he told senators that Crop Insurance is the number one risk-management tool available to farmers.

He says he let the committee members know that farmers want to continue with revenue-oriented FSA programs.

Rohwer says he left the hearing encouraged by the bi-partisan support of the senators.  He called it, “a breath of fresh air.”

He says he is convinced that the senators on the Agriculture Committee are “united in their defense of agriculture.”

Rohwer farms north of Paullina, and raises corn, soybeans and  hogs.  Rohwer is the third generation on his family’s Century Farm and his son and daughter, who both farm with him, represent the fourth generation.
