P&Z To Hear Rezoning Request At Thursday Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Planning & Zoning Commission will meet Thursday afternoon (November 14th) to discuss a rezoning request.

The request comes from Tami Vander Veen and Lora Meendering, who recently purchased the former DOT shed at 1220 2nd Avenue (Business 60 South) in Sheldon. The property is currently zoned Heavy Industrial, and Vander Veen and Meendering are requesting the zoning be changed to Arterial Commercial to accommodate a coffee shop and brewery/alcohol sales to be opened in that location.

In addition, the ladies have requested a special exception to an Arterial Commercial zoning to allow them to situate two apartments on the second floor of the 1220 South 2nd Avenue location.

If given the nod by P&Z the matter would then come before the Zoning Board of Adjustment for an ordinance amendment to allow alcohols sales and the upstairs residential use.

Thursday’s meeting begins at 4:00 pm in Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center.
