Rare Super, Blue, Blood Moon

Northwest Iowa — Three fairly rare moon events are going to coincide on Wednesday morning. Separately, they are not that rare, but together they have not happened for a long time. But you’re going to have to get up early to see it.

Linda Burkhart, the director of the Sanford Museum and Planetarium in Cherokee tells us what’s happening.

Burkhart says that’s not all. Some people call an eclipsed moon a “blood moon.”

She says that the eclipse will start — that is, you’ll be able to start seeing the earth’s shadow move across the moon early on Wednesday morning.

She says you’ll want to get out where there are few trees and buildings in the way, as most of the event will occur as the moon sets in the west.
