Sheldon, Iowa — Changes are coming to how Sanitation Workers are handling Recyclable pickup in Sheldon. Jeff Schwarz of Schwarz Sanitation, one of the city’s two waste haulers, explains the changes so residents know what to expect.
(as said) “on July 1st, the city changed the city ordinance to, everyone gets a 64 gallon can, that’s mandated, and what also happened, is that they went to us having a fifth week on recycling to not having that fifth week. It just went to every other week.”
Schwarz then continued to explain the two routes taken when making his rounds.
(as said) “The first route is basically everything on the outskirts of town, and that consist of: anyone north of Highway 18, west of Old 60, south of 11th Street, and east of Washington. That’s what I consider my route one. My route two is: anyone south of 18, anyone east of Old 60, anyone north of 11th Street including 11th Street, anyone west of Washington, including Washington Avenue. So basically this route two is the middle of town”
Residents will have their recyclables picked up every other week, this started on the 6th of July for route one. While route two started on the 13th. Then from that point it goes from every other week and will continue to do so. Since August has five weeks in it already Schwarz tells us how that will work.
(as said) “Unfortunately August has five weeks in it, so this is the first time that it’s going to happen for Schwarz Sanitation,” Schwarz says “So on the 31st it goes back to what I call is route one, and with the holiday being on the next Monday, route two will get there recycling picked up on the (September) 10th”
Schwarz wants to also let residents know that garbage pickup will not be affected by holidays, and he will do his best to keep Sheldon residents updated on any more changes being made to garbage and recycle pickup.
