Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Police Department has a couple of reminders for Sheldon’s citizens about local ordinances, to keep you from running afoul of the law.
Police are reminding you that it is illegal to burn leaves or yard waste in the Sheldon City Limits. Police remind you that the City has a leaf and grass disposal site located at the rear of Hills Park that is open to the public. THERE ARE SIGNS POSTED THERE EXPLAINING THE RULES FOR THIS SITE—FOLLOW THEM SO THAT WE DON’T LOSE THE PRIVILEGE OF HAVING THIS FREE CONVENIENCE. Many communities either do not have a site like this available for the public or they charge for this service so police say DO NOT ABUSE THIS PRIVILEGE OR WE WILL LOSE IT.
A tree and branch disposal site that is free to the public is located North of Sheldon on Washington Avenue. There are signs posted there explaining the rules for this site as well but some people have ignored these rules and have used it to dump things such as lumber and even old furniture rather than trees and branches. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE RULES IS A CRIME AND WILL RESULT IN OUR LOSS OF THIS FREE SERVICE FOR THE PUBLIC. Due to the bridge that is closed on North Washington Avenue, you will need to access this site from the north.
Sheldon Police say there is camera equipment installed at both the Tree Dump and the Grass and Leaf Dump. They urge residents not to be irresponsible, because failure to follow the rules in a crime.
In addition, Sheldon Police remind you that the City-Wide Overnight Parking Ban goes into effect November 1st, and prohibits parking on any Sheldon street between 2:00 am and 6:00 until April 1st.
