Sanborn Man Faces Felony Charges

Sanborn, Iowa — A 33-year old Sanborn man was arrested late Sunday night on charges of Fraudulent Practices in the 1st Dgree.

According to a criminal complaint filed in O’Brien County District Court, the charges against Edward R. Najera accuse him of fraudulently receiving forty-two weeks of Unemployment benefits from Iowa Workforce Development.

The complaint accuses Najera of receiving more than $16-thousand in Unemployment benefits to which he was not entitled, between December 11, 2011 and March 28,  2015.

The complaint states that, according to the Iowa Code, a 15-percent penalty is applicable, which would bring the total amount allegedly due to Iowa Workforce Development $18,852.99.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Najera was arrested late Sunday night (June 11th), and transported to the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.

If convicted, 1st Degree Fraudulent Practice is  a Class “C” Felony, with a maximum penalty of 10-years in prison, and a maximum fine of $1-thousand.
