Sheldon Education Association Presents Donation To Summer Lunch Program

Sheldon, Iowa — We’re approaching the time of year when school children begin looking forward to…….summer vacation.  In addition to weeks of summer fun, summer vacation from school is also the time when many children in Sheldon don’t always get the nourishing meals they need.  The Sheldon Summer Lunch Program is working to change that.

The Summer Lunch Program is a ministry of Sheldon United Methodist Church that serves lunch each Monday through Friday during the summer months to hungry children at the Church.

The program is funded entirely through donations, and recently received a donation from the Sheldon Education Association, the union representing Sheldon Community Schools teachers, when the group presented a $500 donation to the Sheldon Summer Lunch Program. The SEA’s donation was made possible through a grant from the Iowa State Education Association.

The Sheldon Summer Lunch Program serves lunches each Monday through Friday from 11 am to 1 pm beginning the first Monday after the end of the school year, and continuing through the last day of summer vacation each year.
