Sheldon Fire Chief To Retire At The End Of November

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon’s Fire Chief has submitted his resignation. Fire Chief Dennis Kruger has announced that he is retiring from the Sheldon Fire Company.

Kruger, who is 62 years old, tells us he will be retiring from the department on November 30th, 2022.

Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker says that the City wants to thank Chief Kruger for his 38½ years of service.

An open house is being planned for Kruger on Friday, December 2nd from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the basement of the Community Services Center. It is open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

We asked Kooiker about the process to replace Kruger. He says the position of Fire Chief is appointed by the City Council. There will be an agenda item on November 16 to begin the discussion on how the next Fire Chief will be chosen. He says he is encouraging city council members to think about how this process will occur.

City Manager Kooiker says that provided the Council is working to fill the vacancy with reasonable diligence, Sheldon’s Assistant Fire Chief, Brad Hindt, can fulfill the Chief’s duties during the vacancy.
