Sheldon Fire Company Has Fairly Busy Weekend

Sheldon, Iowa — The Memorial Day holiday weekend was a fairly busy time for Sheldon Firefighters, but fortunately all calls were relatively minor.

On Saturday afternoon at about 1:35, firefighters were dispatched to the report of a Dodge pickup truck on fire on Runger Avenue in far eastern Sheldon.  Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Randy Harms tells KIWA that the fire was out by the time the fire trucks arrived on the scene.  He says they were out for just under half an hour.

Then shortly before 3:45 Saturday afternoon, the Sheldon Fire Company, along with the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team, were dispatched to the report of an accident at 300th Street and Northwest Blvd, north of the Sheldon Regional Airport.  Assistant Chief Harms tells us that by the time crews arrived on scene the vehicle had left.  Fire crews were back at the station within about 15-minutes.

Monday morning, Sheldon firefighters answered a fire alarm at the Sheldon Community Middle School at around 8:15.  Harms says firefighters inspected the building but found no sign of fire, then reset the alarm before heading back to the station.  They were out for just under an hour, according to Harms.
